Overview

A three-role (customer, agent, admin) insurance management platform covering offer, policy and claim workflows end to end. Rewriting the heavy relational queries improved retrieval speed by 25%.

  • Vehicle, home and health offers; automatic policy creation on approval; claims with document upload.
  • Spring Boot + JPA backend, React + TypeScript + Vite front end, JWT auth, Excel/PDF export.

01

Problem

Insurance workflows need three actors (customer, agent, admin) touching the same data with different rights. Along the offer → policy → payment → claim chain, who may do what at each step must be unambiguous.

02

Approach

A modular Spring Boot backend following SOLID: each domain (offer, policy, payment, claim, document) has its own controller/service/repository trio. JWT authentication and role-based authorization guard every endpoint.

Policy listing and reporting queries initially suffered from N+1; they were rewritten with JPQL fetch joins and projections, improving retrieval speed by 25%.

04

Key decisions

  1. 01

DTO/Mapper layer and a global error contract

Entities never reach the API directly. One error shape applies to every endpoint; the React side was written against it.

Outcome

The full flow works for all three roles: quoting, payment, automatic policy, claim filing and approval, Excel/PDF reports. The code is open source.
